If you spent your last Laguna Beach vacation enjoying the sights above the water, you may not know about all the wonderful and interesting things going on below the water. Shaw’s Cove in Laguna Beach is one of California’s best spots to go snorkeling. Made popular by its rich sea life, large reef structures, and kelp forests, you’re going to see some memorable things you never knew where hiding right under the water.
The south side of Shaw’s Cove has a rocky reef structure that extends out 50 yards into the ocean where you’ll see mostly urchins. You’ll find more life on the north side. Just off the north shore you’ll find shallow lying vegetation with lots of eel Grass, some gorgonians, urchins, and anemones. The further you follow the north reef out, the more you’ll see.
Shaw’s Cove is located a mile northwest of the main beach. The entry is off of Cliff Dr. and Fairview. Admitting, parking is a bit of a hassle. The is no parking lot or metered parking spaces along the streets closet to this beach. If you get there early enough, you may be lucky enough to find a parallel parking space free along the houses, but a cab from your hotel is usually the best idea.
