Laguna Beach art is not just for adults but also for kids. Ignite the creative spark in your young artist this summer by taking your children to classes in mixed-media, jewelry making, collage and more, taught by professional Festival artists. During July and August the Festival of Arts, the Sawdust Festival, and the Laguna Art Museum offer art education workshops and classes for kids. It is a creative and fun way to get kids interested in variety of different art mediums. Kids love this opportunity to explore their artistic horizons and there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a finished piece of original, personal art.
This year some of the workshops include ceramics, dream catchers, abstract painting, wood stick creations, jewelry design and even photography. There are several artists assisting in these workshops, some even insist on doing it every year. They give lots of compliments to these budding artists that always bring out that big proud smile we all enjoy seeing on their faces.
The Sawdust Festival offers kids (and adults) various art activities throughout their season. Creating a bowl, dish, or vase at the ceramics wheel at the Sawdust is a rite of passage for everyone growing up in this town. As is scrubbing your hands clean(ish) after they’ve been covered in clay. These art activities are open to children ages 1 to 12 and up. At the Festival of Arts you can drop your kids off to create their masterpiece, or you can stay and watch. But this also gives you the free time to enjoy the artwork on display throughout the Festival grounds. Both kids and parents enjoy a fun and friendly environment that will inspire a desire to come back to create art again and again! Laguna Art Museum is excited to announce its first Elements of Art Summer Camp. Students will explore the six elements of art: line, shape, form, space, color, and texture, while being inspired by the wonderful art on display in the museum. They will learn about each element by creating their own unique art works—with projects varying in complexity according to the student’s age—and by studying art in the museum’s exhibitions. Live! at the Museum: Lee Zimmer
Classical guitarist Lee Zimmer studied for several years with Maestro Seiko Sesoko. Zimmer is a virtuoso performer who has delighted audiences with his elegance and sense of musicality. He is adjunct professor of guitar studies at La Sierra and California Baptist Universities, and is also the music department chairperson for the Fender Center’s Kids Rock Free program, where he developed the current curriculum for guitar, bass, and band studies.
