Sawdust Winter Fantasy

Sawdust Winter Fantasy

Under Christmas lit canopy of trees and school children singing Christmas carols. You stroll down aisle of wreaths and twinkling lights in your flip flops and beach shorts while a light falling of snow dusts the ground and children running around, catching flakes of snow falling from the sky. This is a scene straight from the Sawdust Art Festival’s Winter Fantasy, aptly titled “Art for the Holidays”. Doesn’t this sound better than a big shopping mall! So come experience Christmas Laguna Beach style and stay at one of the many Laguna Beach vacation rentals and relax while doing your Christmas shopping.

The 23rd Annual Winter Fantasy at the Sawdust Art Festival features over 170 artists (30 new this year) who exhibit and sell their original art and unique, hand-crafted items in this enchanting outdoor setting. Artists and craftspeople build each booth themselves for a truly unique holiday shopping experience for visitors. Art media will include: jewelry, clothing, fused and blown glass, ceramics, woodwork, forged metals, photography, painting, sculpture, mixed-media and more. See for yourself why Winter Fantasy is a favorite stop for savvy shoppers seeking one-of-a-kind gifts.

Activities for the family abound as well. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch demonstrations and live artwork; walking through the grounds, one might see one artist glass blowing and another shaping clay. Children and adults can get involved in holiday crafts, creating pieces like watercolor holiday cards and origami ornaments. They even have the chance to meet Santa or check out the Zoomars Petting Zoo and also play in the Children’s Holiday Playhouse.

Apart from the array of art, one of the main attractions of the event is the live entertainment. Combined with the wonderful winter fantasy of outdoor cafés and the Sawdust Saloon adults will also have a winter shopping experience to remember.

The Winter Festival kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Saturday with the Community Night and Tree Lighting Ceremony. Laguna Beach Mayor Jane Egly will be on hand to light the Community Tree. Laguna Community Concert Band, Magic Matt, Balloon Diva, Top of the World honors chorus, Fireside Carolers and Tricia Freedman are slated to perform. On opening day only, Laguna Beach residents are admitted for free with ID after 3 p.m.

Apart from opening weekend, visitors can participate in special community events such as the Toys for Tots drive that will occur every Sunday. Toys for Tots, an organization supported by the Marine Corps Reserve, distributes gifts to undeserved children in the community. Visitors can bring new unwrapped toys for children, and those who donate toys worth $5 or more will be given free admission to Winter Fantasy that Sunday.
